The European Telecommunications Standard (ETS) 300 744 describes the baseline transmission system for digital terrestrial television (TV) broadcasting adopted for deployment in Europe. ETS 300 74 4 specifies the channel coding/ modulation system intended for digital multi-programme LDTV/SDTV/EDTV/HDTV.

Overview

The SystemVue DVB library enables rapid prototyping and debug of ETS 300 744 compliant digital video broadcasting systems such as the 64QAM system shown below.

The specification provides a general description of the baseline system for digital terrestrial TV, identifies the global performance requirements and features of the Baseline System in order to meet the service quality targets, and specifies the digitally modulated signal to allow compatibility between equipment manufactured by different suppliers. This is achieved by describing in detail the signal processing at the modulator side.

The SystemVue DVB Library contains a comprehensive set of tools to aid in the rapid design and simulation of systems based on the ETS 300 744 specification. A complete set of models representing the various blocks used for signal generation and demodulation are presented. In addition, single tokens representing complete modulators and demodulators are available. These elements can be combined as desired to optimize your system design. Each element in the model is designed to receive input data and deliver output at the rates described in the specification.

The key elements of the DVB system include:

  • [204, 188, 8] shortened Reed Solomon code
  • [17, 12] convolutional interleaver
  • Rate ½ k = 7 punctured convolutional encoder, code polynomial (133, 171) octal.
  • DVB modulator consisting of the Demux, Bit Interleaver, Symbol Interleaver, Symbol Mapper, and the OFDM Modulator.

There is an inverse token for each of the above operations that can be used to demodulate the signal.
