Genesys Filter Synthesis is a versatile, interactive tool that creates high-performance L-C filters to your specifications, making RF engineers of all skill levels more productive, and allowing system architects to assess "Make or Buy" decisions to save cost.

Genesys Filter Synthesis is the single best-selling add-on module in the history of the Eagleware company (now Agilent), with thousands of copies sold worldwide. It offers a rich variety of ideal filter topologies that can be applied many different ways, including

  • 4 filter types (Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass, Bandstop)
  • Up to 9 filter shapes for each filter type (Butterworth, Chebyshev, Bessel, user-defined, and many more)
  • Up to 8 topologies for each filter shape (Minimum Capacitor, Minimum Inductor, Tubular, and many more). Approximately 100 total across all types.
  • Single-ended or balanced topologies

Furthermore, Genesys Filter Synthesis gives you a working schematic with pre-defined simulations and graphs, and helps you overcome problems with unreasonable element values. Since you have the full capabilities of the Genesys Core environment, you can add finite "Q" to the component values, optimize them and perform yield analysis for better performance, tune them to standard values, substitute real SMT library parts, create a layout with physical parasitics on a commercial board material, and export a mask to a board shop.

Genesys Filter Synthesis is affordable and easy to use, making it an ideal personal productivity tool for busy RF professionals. It creates high-performance ideal LC filters that be can customized for RF Boards, embedded LTCC substrates, MMIC, and other applications where inductances and capacitances can be realized as physical structures. Eliminate use of filter tables, or bring the co-efficients for your favorite filter type into Genesys and let the software do all the hard work.

Examples of what you can design with Genesys Filter Synthesis

  • Lumped-element filters for IF and RF applications on circuit boards
  • High-performance channel and interference rejection that cannot be purchased as an off-the-shelf commercial part
  • Explore system trade-offs interactively and do fast, personal prototyping

How is Genesys Filter Synthesis available?

  • Add to any Genesys environment
The W1501L Filter Synthesis module by itself can be added easily to any particular Genesys environment or license key that is current on maintenance.
  • Included in other modules
It is included within the W1503L S/Filter module. (See the W1503L S/Filter module for more details)
  • Included in other product design bundles
It is included within several Genesys bundles, such as the W1411L Designer Pro, W1418L Integrated, and the add-on bundles for ADS-users, both the W1421L Genesys Synthesis for ADS and W1422L RF Architect for ADS.

For existing Genesys owners, this module was only included in several bundles that are now in their support life, including the W1403, W1404, W1405, W1406, W1412, W1413, and W1414. See the Bundle Viewer for more configuration info

Genesys Filter Synthesis interacts with other modules

  • W1601L Spectrasys
The W1501L Filter Synthesis module integrates well with W1601L Spectrasys. (See figure 2).
  • W1502L M/Filter Synthesis
The W1502L M/Filter Synthesis module is a distributed-element companion to the W1501L, which is lumped-element. Many people purchase both.
  • W1503L S/Filter Synthesis
The W1503L S/Filter Synthesis module includes both the W1501L Filter Synthesis module and W1502L M/Filter Synthesis module, and adds unique capability to do custom filtering. Refer to the W1503L S/Filter page for more details.
Tip: The W1501L Filter Synthesis module is the single most popular individual Genesys module. Many people who own Genesys Core, or bundles without Synthesis, purchase this popular synthesis module as an add-on.
