Electromagnetic simulators represent the current in a pattern by subdividing the geometry into cells. If current is highly localized, such as in a microstrip transmission line or spiral inductors (where most of the current is on the edge) a dense mesh of cells is required to accurately represent the current.

With the Edge Mesh feature, a dense row of cells is placed along the edges of the geometry. The current is represented more accurately while simulation time is minimized through an efficient sampling algorithm.
