Advanced Design System Instrument Server

The Instrument Server is built into ADS and provides a control facility for bi-directional data exchange with the instruments it supports. The Instrument Server capability has been expanded and improved by the Connection Manager, a separately orderable product from Agilent EEsof.

While the Instrument Server is still provided as part of ADS and continues to provide connection to older instruments, it is no longer maintained and defects discovered in the Instrument Server are not addressed. Please seeE5720A Connection Manager for information on the Connection Manager.

Data can be acquired from network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and other communications related equipment or models. Such data can be used to represent individual components, instead of datasheet or equation data; it can also be used as a real-world simulation source.

The instrument server requires either an HP-IB card or a National Instruments GP-IB card to be present in the computer communicating with the instrument. For network analyzers, rectangular S-parameters are captured and stored.

Instrument Server does not support writing data to the analyzer waveform memory. Instrument Server will only support reading S parameters from ports 1 and 2.

Agilent 70820A Microwave Transition Analyzer. For this instrument, a range of data acquisition is possible, including complex amplitude vs. frequency; complex amplitude vs. time; and table frequencies.

The Agilent Ptolemy module also includes models that allow designers to download simulation data to various instruments.
