IC-CAP Product Configuration

IC-CAP consists of five major components:

  1. IC-CAP Software Environment
  2. Analysis Module
  3. Instrument Drivers
  4. Extraction Modules
  5. Statistics Package

A typical IC-CAP configuration requires an 85199A IC-CAP Software Environment, an 85199B Analysis Module, an Instrument Drivers package such as the 85199D for DC measurement and/or 85199E for AC measurement, and an extraction modules such as an 8519D VBIC Extraction Module.

Note: The Root models do not require the Analysis Module.

Agilent 85199A IC-CAP Software Environment

The Agilent 85199A IC-CAP Software Environment is the foundation of IC-CAP and provides the flexible software architecture.

It includes the ability to perform mathematical transforms, configure IC-CAP plots, write macros, and create extraction routines using the Parameter Extraction Language (PEL). The module also includes IC-CAP Data Display for post-processed data display, and the IC-CAP Studio for custom GUI development.

An extensive Function Library is included, and user-defined functions can be created using the C programming language.

This module is required for every IC-CAP application.

Agilent 85190A IC-CAP Modeling Suite

The Agilent 85190A IC-CAP Modeling Suite provides the basic tools you need to start modeling devices and circuits.

The Agilent 85190A IC-CAP Modeling Suite consists of the following:

  1. Agilent 85199A IC-CAP Software Environment
  2. Agilent 85199B Analysis Module
  3. Agilent 85199C LCRZ Measurement Drivers
  4. Agilent 85199D DC Measurement Drivers
  5. Agilent 85199E AC Measurement Drivers

The Agilent 85190A IC-CAP Modeling Suite provides the ability to set up custom extraction routines, measure data using instrument drivers, analyze results, perform simulations, and optimize extracted parameters.

Industry-standard modeling routines, in the form of model extraction modules and other Agilent EEsof EDA models or model generators, can be added to this modeling suite to provide you with a more complete solution.

Agilent 85199B Analysis Module

The Agilent 85199B Analysis Module is the IC-CAP simulation engine that provides the ability to simulate device or circuit performance using the built-in SPICE simulators or allows linking to a wide range of external simulators. Links to other simulators can be added using IC-CAP's open simulator interface.

The analysis module also includes the Plot Optimizers and the optimization engine with 13 different optimization algorithms.

NOTE: You can also use the ADS Simulators such as Linear, Transient, and Harmonic Balance directly under IC-CAP. The Analysis module includes Linear and Transient simulations with ADS. You only need to purchase a separate license for Harmonic Balance. No ADS Environment license is required. Contact your local sales representative for special configuration.

The following configuration table lists everything included in this module.

Notes:

Local: IC-CAP supports the simulators locally. Both IC-CAP software and the target simulator must run on the same machine.

Remote:. IC-CAP supports the target simulators that run on a different machine via remote simulation links. IC-CAP supports remote simulation links to simulators that operate on a Sun Solaris or a LINUX operating system.

*SABER is not supported on Linux.

Licensed Software

Each IC-CAP module is available in two forms:

  • A node-locked version allowing the software to execute only on a single workstation or PC.
  • A network-licensed version for execution on multiple workstations or PCs on a network, allowing various workgroups to share the software.

Both licenses use the FLEXlm license management system.

These two forms can be mixed freely. For example, a node-locked version of an instrument driver can reside on a workstation in the characterization lab while a network-licensed version of the Analysis Module can be shared among a group of engineers for data analysis.
